Weight gain is a critical problem owing to a combination of reasons that we tend to overlook, the major one being our wrong or bad eating habits. Post-Covid weight gain has become an even biggerconcern. Let us through this blog understand how bad habits aid to weight gain and how we can win over them.
Bad habits can be compared to a comfortable bed, easy to get into but it is difficult to get out of it. It has been extensively proved through research that bad habits play a major role in weight gain. Mantra Lifestyle Health Club brings to you a premium two-month-long
weight loss package, where our main aim is to rectify the six common bad habits which are responsible for weight gain.
Going by this famous quote of Dr. A.P J Abdul Kalam.“You cannot change your future, but you can change your habits, and surely your habits will change your future “, Mantra Lifestyle Health Club initiates a series of vlogs/blogs/talk shows and FB Live sessions where we plan to address mindful eating and adapt it as an inherent habit within our systems.
We believe human habits can be controlled in a number of ways:
Train up a counter habit that conflicts with you
In Yoga sutra (II Sutra 33) Sag Patanjali said
“Vitarkabadhanepratipakshabhavanam”
“When improper thoughts trouble you, then take the opposite side”
For weight loss, it is important to train the mind to focus on things that prohibit you from concentrating on healthy eating habits, one should start developing counter habits to win over the bad habits
Put up behavioral barriers
Change blockers are the part of us that makes us resist change and limit our abilities to embrace it. They are emotional strategies that we develop over time to avoid pain and discomfort. The result of these blockers is that we often won’t or can’t take on sufficient responsibility to develop ourselves
Put up physical barriers
Physical barriers are structural obstacles in natural or manmade environments that prevent or block mobility (moving around in the environment) or access.
Generate Mindfulness
Through the mindfulness approach, we can change our bad habits into good ones gradually. We call the process DEADS: Delay, Escape, Avoid, Distract, Substitutes. This process gets initiatedthrough Neurogenesis. We can increase the number of brain cells by eating well and exerting mental efforts Mindful eating focuses on the growth of the mind.
In Ayurveda, there is a saying:
“BinapeeVeshaJaibyadhi
PathyadebaNibartate
NatupathyaBihinasya
VeshajananShatairapi”
It means if you maintain the rules of a good diet you may not need any medicine but if you do not then no medicine can work its wonder on you. Let’s start the journey to good health with six good habits:
Slow Eating
Eating without destruction/Maintaining silence
Developing an attitude of gratitude
Never satisfy your hunger completely
Growing sensitivity
Listening to physical hunger
